|Fan of your book: naked, drunk, and writingInboxxJennifer Wilson <firstname.lastname@example.org>5:41 PM (2 hours ago)Replyto meHi Lara,|
I started writing what I thought would be a fictionalized autobiography in 2018 and was close to finishing it a few months ago when I found an editor (Like you say in your book to get sooner rather than later)…big mistake for me to wait that long… She told me that it sounded more like a memoir. The problem is: I created scenes from my imagination when I didn’t remember the real dialogue in particular scenes. I thought it was kosher to do that since I was going the “fiction” route, but my newly found editor she said I needed to study form to be a fiction writer.
With chagrin, I confess this is my first book so I was way out of my league. I’m 65 years old. I’m a musician and have written a ton of lyrics and poetry so I thought I’d be a natural at writing. I didn’t even think I needed a class until I read your book.
I live in Sacramento and want to ask if you are still doing editing (visits to your home or on the phone). I decided to go the route of a memoir and redid my first chapter following the advice in your book. Why hasn’t anyone told me the stuff that I’ve learned in your book? I never had a clue that writing had a structure that actually makes sense that keeps the story moving. You have a gift for sharing your knowledge and structure in a way that is extremely helpful and entertaining. I kept laughing as I read. (I’m the kind of person that has to be entertained or I get bored really easily. I read your book in about four days.
I’m starting my book all over and created the arc for chapter one and finished it today after umpteen revisions, but find the arc thing overwhelming to do it for the entire book. Was wondering if I could make the arc for one chapter at a time as long as know how I will end the book.
I have a title for my book, “Heaven’s Heat to Hell’s Cool Waters––Memoirs of a Sexually Liberated Mormon Angel.” I have live sexual accounts in it, so it’s not for everyone. If its something you feel comfortable with and if you have time to work with me, please let me know. Thank you so much for your time. I’d be delighted to talk with you on the phone at some point.
